An advanced non-invasive prenatal paternity testing for determining fatherhood.

Until recently, the only way to test for paternity while pregnant was to collect amniotic fluid via a long needle, which is an “invasive” procedure that presents a risk to the baby.

“Non-invasive” means there is no need to intrude in the baby’s safe environment to test for paternity.

A non-invasive prenatal paternity test is the safest way to determine fatherhood before the baby is born.

Suitable from 10 weeks pregnancy onwards after your first scan (private or NHS)

More Information

Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Testing is a method for determining paternity before the baby’s birth. It involves analysing cell-free fetal DNA in the mother’s blood and comparing it to the potential fathers’ DNA. Fetal DNA can be detected as early as 5 weeks into the pregnancy. After isolating and sequencing the cell-free DNA using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), it’s compared to the DNA collected from the alleged fathers using a simple buccal swab.

The baby’s genetic profile consists of half from the mother and half from the father. To establish paternity, the alleged father’s genetic profile must match half of the baby’s genetic profile.

Paternity is EXCLUDED in case in which the genetic characteristics of the potential father differ from those of the baby, while it is ATTRIBUTED if they match, a report is then generated to indicate whether the tested man is or isn’t the biological father.
