They share the same core of thyroid, liver, kidney, lipid, HbA1c, iron, inflammation, hormone, vitamin and full blood count markers. The Signature adds nine: CA-125, cortisol, and the advanced cardiovascular set of lipoprotein(a), ApoB, ApoA1, the ApoB to ApoA1 ratio and PLAC activity, plus transferrin saturation and the triglyceride to HDL ratio. Premium includes AST, ceruloplasmin and non-HDL cholesterol, which the Signature Well Woman does not. CA-125 is a protein that can be raised in ovarian cancer, which is why the NHS uses it as a first test for women with persistent bloating, pelvic pain or feeling full quickly. It is not a screening test on its own: it is also raised by endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic inflammation, menstruation and early pregnancy, and some ovarian cancers do not raise it. A normal result is reassuring in context, and a raised one is a prompt for an ultrasound through your GP rather than a diagnosis. Your GP report explains the result against your age and symptoms.

Oestradiol, progesterone, FSH and LH together show where you are in your cycle and, from your 40s, whether you are approaching or past the menopause: a high FSH with low oestradiol is the classic pattern. Prolactin, testosterone, free androgen index and SHBG help explain irregular periods, acne, excess hair growth and PCOS. DHEA-sulphate and cortisol reflect adrenal function and stress. Tell us the date of your last period when you book so the report can interpret the results correctly, and note that combined contraception and HRT alter several of these values.

Standard cholesterol tests measure how much cholesterol is in your blood; ApoB counts the particles carrying it, which predicts heart attack and stroke risk more accurately. Lipoprotein(a) is an inherited form of LDL that around one in five people carry at high levels and that does not respond to diet; it is usually only worth measuring once. Women's heart risk rises sharply after the menopause as oestrogen falls, so knowing these markers in your 40s and 50s is useful. PLAC activity adds a measure of inflammation inside the artery wall.

Thyroid disease is up to ten times more common in women than men and is a frequent hidden cause of tiredness, weight gain, hair loss, heavy periods and low mood. Most tests check TSH alone. This panel measures TSH with free and total T4 and T3, and adds thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies, which show autoimmune thyroid disease before TSH changes. That matters if you have a family history, are planning a pregnancy, or have had a borderline TSH result.

If you have regular periods and want the hormone results to be most informative, day 2 to 5 of your cycle is the standard time for FSH, LH and oestradiol, and day 21 for progesterone if you want to confirm ovulation. If that is not practical, take the test at any time and tell us your cycle day; the report will interpret against the right phase. If you are on hormonal contraception, HRT, or past the menopause, timing does not matter.

Fasting keeps the triglyceride and glucose-related results comparable with the reference ranges. Take any regular medication as normal unless your GP has told you otherwise, and eat as soon as the sample is done.
