Blood Draw Appointment

At any of 250+ Goodbody clinics across the UK, or at home with a visiting nurse. Book online, choose your clinic or home visit, and bring the complete kit your provider sent you: tubes, needle or butterfly if supplied, labels, forms and return packaging. The phlebotomist draws the sample into your tubes following your provider's instructions, labels them, and hands them back to you to post. Many online test companies sell venous kits and tell you to find a local phlebotomist; this is that appointment.

£45 at a Goodbody clinic or £65 for a nurse to come to your home, for one kit of up to five tubes. GP practices and NHS phlebotomy services will not usually take samples for private kits, and private hospitals typically charge £50 to £100 for a phlebotomy-only appointment. If your kit has more than five tubes, or you have two kits, book two appointments.

About 15 minutes from arrival, including checking your kit and identity, the draw itself, which takes a minute or two, and labelling. Allow a little longer if you are having a home visit or several tubes. You can drive and carry on with your day immediately afterwards.

Everything your provider sent: the collection tubes, any needle, butterfly or holder included, the request form or barcode labels, patient details, and the return packaging. Read your provider's instructions beforehand and bring them too, particularly any note about tube order, how many times to invert a tube, or how quickly it must be posted. Bring photo identification. Drink a glass or two of water in the hour before, which makes the veins easier to find.

No, and this matters when choosing a kit. Goodbody clinics do not have centrifuges, so kits that require the sample to be spun and the serum separated before posting cannot be completed here; check your provider's instructions for words like "centrifuge", "spin" or "separate serum". We cannot refrigerate or freeze samples, and we do not post your sample for you: you take the labelled tubes away and post them yourself, ideally the same day. Kits from most large online test providers are designed for unspun whole blood and are fine.

Only if your test provider says so, typically for cholesterol, glucose or some hormone tests. If fasting is required, book a morning appointment and have nothing but water for the period your provider specifies. Take your usual medication unless your provider has told you otherwise. Whatever the test, drink water beforehand.

Yes, if you book it separately. Goodbody's own blood tests, from a £49 finger-prick or venous single test to full health panels, include the draw, laboratory analysis and a GP report, and can be booked at the same clinic. If you are choosing between buying a kit elsewhere and paying for the draw, or booking the equivalent Goodbody test, the Goodbody test is often the same price or less once the draw is included.

Our phlebotomists take blood all day and are experienced with difficult veins; drinking water and keeping warm beforehand helps. If a sample cannot be obtained, or your tubes cannot be filled to the required volume, the phlebotomist will tell you and you can rebook. We can only use the tubes your provider supplied, so if a tube is spoiled you will need a replacement from them.

Appointments are for adults aged 18 and over, and the person having blood taken must be the person booked. If you are booking for a partner or relative, book in their name and details.

You leave with your labelled tubes in your provider's packaging. Post them the same day, using the provider's prepaid packaging and any deadline they set, since most tests need to reach the laboratory within 24 to 48 hours. Your results come from your provider, not from Goodbody; contact them with any questions about the test itself.
